The Puerto Vallarta Malecón has been renovated

by Karime Infante

This past month of November the celebrated Puerto Vallarta boardwalk locally known as the Malecón was inaugurated, after being completely restructured by a high-level project that places the city at the forefront of tourist destinations. The renovations include various details that enhance the warm ambiance and picturesque touches of Mexican folklore that tourists adore, so much so that during each visit to Puerto Vallarta they pay an obligatory visit to the Malecón to enjoy the incredible sunsets over Banderas Bay.

Incredible works of art such as the now-famous sculptures by Alejandro Colunga like La Rotunda de Los Magos continue to decorate the walkways of this special place. Incorporated into the list of artistic exhibitions are indigenous Huichol symbols made with river stones embedded along the walkways by artist Fidencio Benítez, winner of the National Prize for Science and Art. And for those who seek to remain perpetually connected to the rest of the world to share their best moments, wireless internet connection is available throughout the area. Locals and visitors alike agree that this space has become an even more attractive option for spending the afternoon and taking a pleasant stroll while enjoying the refreshing Pacific breeze in beautiful Puerto Vallarta.

Competirán casi 6 mil atletas en Panamericanos 2011

Juegos Panamericanos 2011

A warm welcome for the Nuestra Belleza national beauty contest

by Manuel Calderon de la Barca

On Saturday August 13th the Casa Velas Convention Center, located at the most exclusive boutique hotel in Puerto Vallarta, set the scene for the city council’s elegant reception to welcome the 34 contestants competing for the title of the most beautiful woman in Mexico.

On August 13th the city council and local businesspeople, among them Velas Resorts general directors, came together in support of the contest. Natural beauty abounded as the 34 lovely contestants and committee organizer were welcomed in the tranquil, chic elegance of the Casa Velas Convention Center, tucked away within the verdant greens of Marina Vallarta golf course.

Organizers of the Nuestra Belleza Mexico 2011 beauty contest and the municipal authorities of the port collaborated with ease, with the mutual objective of promoting the state of Jalisco, particularly the spectacular city of Puerto Vallarta, and hosting this well-known beauty contest.

nuestra belleza 2011

At the welcoming event, the municipal president of Puerto Vallarta, Salvador González Reséndiz, welcomed the participants and mentioned the importance of the city being chosen as the host of Nuestra Belleza, whose final round was held on August 20th at the city Convention Center.

He also proudly mentioned that this beach destination was chosen as the host of two other important events- the Tianguis Turistico, or Tourism Fair 2012 and the 2011 Panamerican games. “We are very happy to have them and are confident that we will make the best of the events to promote this destination. Here we have the representation of the city: the chamber of commerce, the media, all willing to receive them with open arms, to make their stay the most pleasant possible, said González Reséndiz. He also added that “we are a destination that is renewing itself, that seeks to show its best side, and above all, has a grand jewel: the warmth of its people”.

Executive producer of Nuestra Belleza, Marco Flavio Cruz, graciously showed his appreciation for the hospitable welcome of the guests and assured that the airing of the contest on national television and the contest preview “Rumbo a Nuestra Belleza”, would display to all of Mexico the magnetic attraction of Puerto Vallarta and the entire state of Jalisco for tourists.

In true Casa Velas style, the presentation of each of the 34 young beauties was followed by an unforgettably elegant and creative meal.

General Director of Nuestra Belleza Mexico, Lupita Jones, treated attendees to a wonderful description of how Casa Velas had pampered the participants with exclusive Spa treatments at their Leading Spa of the World, gourmet cuisine at Emiliano restaurant, recently recognized with the Star Diamond Award, incomparable dinners by the sea at the Ocean Club and special events within the hotel that made them truly feel like queens.

Family vacations that have it all

por Manuel Calderón dela Barca

Puerto Vallarta, with some of the most enchanting beaches in Mexico, is a dream setting for a well-deserved family vacation, and Velas Vallarta is more than just a beach resort. Its world-class service, friendly personal service and fun activities for young and old are just part of the adventure.

When searching for a hotel for a family vacation, we look for one that includes great service, comfortable accommodations and fun activities; in essence, one place that has everything necessary for parents and kids to have a great time- this is the perfect description of Velas Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta vacations

Located in the Marina area of Puerto Vallarta, closet to downtown and the city’s beautiful Malecón, this beachfront resort beckons you to a paradise where peacocks, iguanas and exotic birds coexist with guests, in a landscape of incomparable tropical gardens, extensive green areas and bubbling fish ponds.

Convenient in all senses of the word, it offers All Inclusive services for those who prefer to travel worry-free as they explore the marvels of the port and its surrounding areas. There are various suite options, to comfortably accommodate large and small families.

The kindness and friendliness that characterizes the Mexican people, and particularly the people of Puerto Vallarta, is felt in every aspect of this resort. It is also an environmentally-conscious establishment. Every year gulf sea turtles swim up to the beach to lay their eggs and the resort, along with a local conservation organization, makes sure to protect their nesting zone; guests can even help take the baby turtles back to the ocean.

Actions such as these earn the resort an ecological certificate each year from Earth Check, and it is consistently recognized with top ratings on TripAdvisor for service.

The resort has two excellent restaurants: La Ribera, a casual ocean-front restaurant with different international cuisine each day, served buffet-style or a la carte, and Andrea, where the gourmet styles of Italy, France and of course Mexico can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 24-hour suite service is another ingredient of the All Inclusive service.

The Kids Club is the ideal place for creativity, freedom and fun. Kids are cared for by experts, who lead them in arts and crafts, outdoor sports, painting and table games while parents enjoy a Spa treatment by the sea or take a romantic walk on the beach to take in the beautiful tropical sunsets.

The resort also organizes activities for parents and kids to get together, where kids are taught to give fun and relaxing massages to their moms and dads. For adults, yoga classes on the jetty are a truly inspiring experience.

Nights at Velas Vallarta are the perfect ending to a day full of adventure. Every night is something different, with themes such as Casino Night, karaoke, circus and even a traditional Mexican fiesta complete with Mariachi, dance, raffles, contests and delicious Mexican menu.
